Project “Nature Aligned Sourcing” started

In partnership with dm-drogerie markt, the Frankfurt Conservation Center (FCC), the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE), the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research Halle-Jena-Leipzig (iDiv), and Biodiversity in Good Company (BiGC) are developing a scientifically robust framework for commodity sourcing that enables stronger consideration of key ecosystem services.

The project examines how selected commodities depend on ecosystem services, biodiversity and social-ecological conditions in their sourcing regions, and how commodity production in turn affects them. In the first module of the project, available data sources are identified, assessed and combined with available site-specific and commodity-specific information in order to derive robust insights into ecological and social-ecological risks as well as relevant dependencies.

The aim is to make key interactions visible and to identify concrete entry points for the further development of sustainable sourcing strategies. The results will feed into an evaluation matrix and roadmap that provide guidance for the further development of sustainable sourcing strategies.
